Does Target Optical Take VSP? (Out of Network) - AisleofShame.com (2024)

Unfortunately, while Target Optical accepts insurance from a long list of providers, they do not list VSP Vision Care on their list of accepted vision insurance plans.

Because it’s a common question, we also checked to see if CVS accepts VSP, but as far as we can tell, Aetna is the only insurance provider currently accepted by CVS Pharmacy for contact lenses.

But while VSP is not one of Target Optical’s designated insurance providers, that doesn’t mean that you won’t be able to use VSP to access vision care through Target.

If you are a VSP customer and you would like to use Target Optical as your vision care provider, then your insurance will have to be billed separately as an out-of-network provider.

What Is Covered In Target Optical Insurance?

Although Target Optical provides vision care products and services, they do not provide their own vision insurance.

With your separate insurance, the kinds of services you can expect to find through Target Optical include:

  • Eye exams
  • Prescription glasses
  • Contact lenses
  • Sunglasses

What is covered through your insurance will vary based on your plan. You can check your insurance eligibility using Target Optical’s insurance tool on their website. Simply visit Target Optical’s website, then click on “Insurance” toward the upper right corner. Then, enter your details to find out what will be covered.

Target Optical does offer a limited Worry-Free Protection Plan for glasses purchased from them. However, the terms of this policy do not include lost glasses. You can read all about Target’s Worry-Free Protection Plan here.

How Much Does VSP Cover For Glasses At Target?

Target Optical Reviews

Of course, every Target Optical center will vary in terms of customer service, but customers seem to be happy overall with the services, care, and products they receive through Target Optical. (Remember that the Target Corporation does not provide vision care services or employ on-staff optometrists. All optometrists working through Target Optical are independent medical providers contracting through the Target Optical network.)
